Arnside

Arnside is a pretty largely Victorian village lying on the shore of Morecambe Bay. The Arnside and its surroundings have been identified as an area of outstanding natural beauty with several sites of scientific interest due to rare butterflies and plants that may be found around the limestone pavements.
Arnside Knott is an area of National Trust woodland which affords the walker spectacular views across the bay to the Lakeland fells.
Arnside promenade has a number of shops including a bakers and a craft gallery, classic fish & chip shop plus a couple of pubs The Albion and The Fighting Cocks which enjoy sea views when the tide is in. The cross bay walks often start from here but a word of caution if you decide to cross the bay unsupervised! We have a guide Cedric Robinson who is there for a reason, there are quicksands, channels and the tide comes in faster than you can run!
Arnside is a good choice for accommodation as the M6 is close by giving easy access to the Lake District itself.
The railway station (more of a halt really) is on the line to Lancaster one way and Ulverston and Grange Over Sands the other. Carnforth Station is a short journey away famous for those who are fans of the classic British film of repressed feelings "Brief Encounter" starring Trevor Howard and Celia Johnson. The clock has been restored to its rightful place but don't expect the grotty sandwich bar as that was a set in Pinewood studios.
