Elterwater Village
Elterwater, is small village in the Great Langdale valley. Elterwater village thrived due to the nearby Skelwith Bridge slate quarry, and there was a gunpowder manufacturing site there too. Elterwater is named after the small lake by which it sits, and there is a footpath from the centre of the village which follows the lake shore.
For the thirsty there is the 17th Century Britiannia Inn, plus a local Post Office and shop.
There are holiday cottages and bed & breakfast available locally.
