Farm Holidays

FARM HOLIDAYS
The Lake District is farming country and the landscape has been altered through the centuries by the farms within it. Hardy breeds of sheep such as Herdwicks graze the fell pastures providing food and wool which powered the economy in bygone times. The enclosure acts led to the vast tracts of dry stone walls a (real cumbrian skill to build) and the Lake District is famous for its Farmers Markets and agricultural prowess.

A farm holiday breaks into two categories, staying in a farmhouse and staying on a working farm.
Working farm holidays are great for families with children.Get the timing right and you can be there for the lambing season or you can see the dairy herds being milked.

Accommodation in Lake District farms can be either within the farmhouse on a bed and breakfast basis or within a converted barn or shippan. Some farms have self catering accommodation but either way what could be lovelier than getting back to nature by staying on a Lakeland farm?
