Nestling in the gateway to the Lake District and on the edge of the National Park lies Gilpin Bridge Inn, a family run inn full of character and steeped in history.

Ideally situated just off the A590 between Kendal and Newby Bridge, the Gilpin Bridge Hotel & Inn is immediately south of the beautiful unspoilt Lyth Valley with its close proximity to the South Lakes this is an ideal situation for touring amidst spectacular scenery, yet away from the hustle and bustle of the busy Lake town centres.

The Inn boasts a wide selection of draught beers and has an excellent reputation for its real ale.
There is a varied wine list, at moderate prices, to accompany your meal if you wish. There is a large car park adjacent to the premises, and a friendly welcome from our helpful staff to ensure a convivial afternoon or evening, whatever time of year you visit.
The name of this humble establishment was acquired from Richard de Gylpin, a Norman Knight who lived here after fighting the crusades and upon whose arrival found the local populate to be menaced by a distinctly unsavoury boar. The wild and savage beast had done away with numerous victims before disappearing into the dense neck of the woodland back to its secret lair.

Nowadays the locals are a lot friendlier and are able to enjoy the hospitality of the inn, which offers an extensive menu and daily specials served in the lounge or restaurant along with a good selection of wines by the bottle or glass, cask ales and a large choice of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Location
The Gilpin Bridge Inn couldn't be easier to find.
Leave the M6 at Junction 36 onto the A590.
Proceed for 3.2 miles before turning left signposted for Barrow-in-Furness.
Take the first turn off at the roundabout onto the A590 and proceed for 2.6 miles.
Take the turn off to the right for the A5074 and you're there.

Ideally placed due to it being a short drive from the M6 the Gilpin Bridge has a fine reputation and is close to attractions such as Levens Hall, Yew Tree Barn, Lakes Aquarium and pretty villages such as Cartmel and Levens itself. Best of both worlds with the Furness Peninsula and the Lakes themselves on your doorstep but a slightly quicker journey home after a special break.
