Description
Hallgarth Barn, sleeping 8 people, is a conversion of the former barn at Hallgarth Farm providing characterful and comfortable holiday accommodation. Not only is the building itself so striking with galleried dining room, beams and multi fuel burner but the location has to be surely one of the most stunning in The Lake District. Set in an elevated position on the side of Whinlatter the panoramic views to Skiddaw, Bassenthwaite Lake  and the Northern fells are breathtaking.
Thornthwaite is ideally situated for exploring the surrounding mountains, rivers and lakes. Whether it be mountainous walks along the fells including Cat Bells, Causey Pike and Barrow, gentle strolls around Bassenthwaite and Derwent Water or paddling and picnicking in the Newlands Valley, all are easily reached on foot from the village. Rising above Thornthwaite is Whinlatter forest with it's numerous mountain bike trails and high ropes course (Go Ape). Braithwaite, just one mile away, has it's own village shop selling a comprehensive range of goods. There are three pubs in Braithwaite, The Royal Oak, The Middle Ruddings and The Coledale Inn, all serving good food and fine ales there is also a restaurant, The Ivy House.
Keswick is within walking distance or a 5 minute drive where there are further pubs and restaurants as well as Booths supermarket. Keswick is a hub of outdoor activity and there is something to do for everyone in the local area, including the Keswick launch on Derwentwater, nearby climbing wall, renowned Theatre by the Lake, cinema and an abundance of outdoor wear shops. Cockermouth, the home of  William Wordsworth, is a 15 minute drive away.
