Description
Camping Barn

This 17th Century Lakeland farmhouse has now been restored by the National Trust using traditional materials to provide a superb camping barn. Wallabarrow provides a perfect base for walking to suit all ages and abilities, climbing on the crag with routes of varying difficulty, mountain biking, canoeing, wildlife and bird watching.

The barn sleeps up to 10 and is available all year for individual or sole use bookings. Families with children under 5 should book sole use and anyone under the age of 16 should be accompanied by a responsible adult. Additional accommodation available for larger groups, please ask for details.

The barn can be occupied after 4pm and should be vacated by 11am on departure days.
Dogs accepted by arrangement at £1.50 per dog per night. Dogs must be kept under control as there are always chickens/sheep/children around
.

The ground floor consists of a large living area with woodburning stove, tables, pews and well-equipped kitchen with hot water.

The kitchen has an electric cooker with four rings, toaster, kettle, fridge and plenty of crockery, cutlery, pots, pans and cooking utensils.
The first floor comprises a large communal sleeping area with a stack of 10 new mattresses with mattress protectors. There are beautiful views towards 'Caw' and the Dunnerdale fells.

The toilet and shower are in separate buildings. There is a secluded garden and picnic area in a newly planted orchard.

You can bring your own kindling and logs for the woodburner or you can buy them at a cost of £15 per very large basket.

Things to bring with you - Tea towels and dishcloths, indoor shoes, torch, towels, sleeping bags and pillows, midge repellent for midgy evenings. The mattresses have protectors but not sheets.Washing up liquid and toilet tissue.

As Wallabarrow is not on the mains waste system we try to keep our septic tank operating smoothly by not using strong detergents or non-biodegradable products.

There is sometimes farm produce available to buy, such as Galloway beef, Herdwick lamb chops and free range eggs. Home produced charcoal is sometimes available for BBQs, please check in advance.

The Newfield Inn is a delightful 15 minute woodland walk and is open all day serving  food and real ale. If you are a large group and want to eat at the pub on a Friday or Saturday night it is sometimes worth booking a table in advance (01229 716208).

The Blacksmiths Arms at Broughton Mills (4 miles) is open set hours, the beer is good and the food excellent (01229 716824).Again, pre booking is a very good idea.
