Description
High Wallabarrow Cottage is located on a traditional lakeland hill farm. The farm is at the end of a no through road, so it's a great place for kids. Also available are camping barn and bunk-house accommodation from £10 per night each.
Well behaved dogs are accepted - as this is a working farm, they will encounter other dogs and a variety of animals
Set in the
Duddon Valley
, a hidden jewel of Lakeland,
Wallabarrow holiday cottage
lies in a remote unspoilt corner of the
Lake District National Park in Cumbria
. High Wallabarrow is a traditional hill farm owned by the National Trust. It is situated at the end of a quiet no-through road with only footpaths and bridleways beyond. Nestled below the impressive Wallabarrow Crag, there are wonderful walks straight from the door, ranging from low level riverside and woodland walks to the higher fells, including Harter Fell and the Coniston range.
The National Trust manage Wallabarrow Woods for their conservation and landscape interests. In these woods you are likely to see pied flycatcher, green and spotted woodpeckers and a variety of small birds such as warblers and tit species. Sitting by the river, if you are lucky you may see kingfisher and dippers. Further up the gorge peregrines nest and parents can be seen out hunting for smaller birds.
We have
bunkhouse accommodation
available from £8.50 pppn and a new
camping barn
sleeping up to 10.
The
holiday cottage accommodation
comprises a newly fitted kitchen, two bedrooms; a family room upstairs with a king size bed and a single bed (stair gate available) and a single bedroom downstairs with a four foot bed.
In addition there is a full size futon in the living room downstairs, where there is a colour TV with Freesat and DVD player. A stable door looks out onto the shared garden and up to the fells. The bathroom is downstairs and has a shower over the bath.
Services include an efficient combi boiler heating and hot water system, electric cooker and microwave, fridge with freezer compartment. Bed linen and electricity are included. For 'wee uns' we have a 3-wheeler jogger and a macpac carrier which visitors are welcome to borrow. Well behaved dogs are welcome and must always be under control as they are likely to encounter sheep, cows, horses, chickens, rabbits, working dogs and young children on a daily basis!
Whilst on your
farm holiday in the Duddon Valley
free range eggs from the bantam and black rock hens are usually available for you to buy and sometimes other produce such as Herdwick lamb and Galloway beef, home produced charcoal and fruit and vegetables grown organically in the garden and polytunnel.

The cottage is in an area we know well and the Duddon Valley is a hidden gem in our opinion. You will be close to Broughton In Furness with its lovely pubs and an excellent butcher/grocer and you can explore the west lakes with such attractions as Muncaster Castle and the Ravenglass & Eskdale miniature railway.
The Newfield inn is nearby and you can drive or hike over the fells and on a sunny day get a good view of the Isle Of Man over the Irish Sea.
Ulpha is also just down the road where there is a pool for swimming ideal on a hot day to cool off.
