Description
Kendal Festival of Food
Saturday 24 - Saturday 31 October 2009
This new event is held during October half term - a 7 day food and drink extravaganza showcasing the very best in local produce and exceptional dining experiences that can be found in and around Kendal. This area is home to some of the finest food and drink in Cumbria. From local fish, game, beef and lamb, to the sumptuous fruit, vegetables and cheeses, the Kendal Festival of Food offers you the very best.
It’s a feast of a week so make the most of the great events and food deals on offer. Go and sample a wide variety of foods at eating establishments across the area, serving quality local produce- fresh to you, every day of the festival. In addition to the ample mouth watering dishes to choose from there are other activities including farm tours, tastings, demonstrations and much more. See how your food gets from pasture to plate.
We want people to visit local producers, taste local produce and buy local products. To do all this, and experience local produce at its best, what better way is there than to visit the establishments themselves? This is why the majority of the events will take place all
over the Kendal area so that you can get the best ‘local’ experience. See for yourself how the food gets from farm to fork.
Whether your trip to Kendal is for a short stay, a lavish four-course dinner or a light lunch in picturesque surroundings, there is something for everyone in
the programme of events.
Highlights
•There are plenty of activities for children such as farm tours, tastings and workshops.
•See for your own eyes how cheese, bread and beer are made and try it at one of the demonstrations
•Plenty of free advice on offer about healthy eating and reducing food miles from the local experts
•Visit local farms to see milking, cattle management and learn about traditional sheep breeds.
•Something a bit different? Why not learn all about growing organic, pig farming or dairy production
•Beer Festivals on all week - sample locally brewed beers and enjoy live music
•Extend your stay by checking in to one of our local establishments offering special accommodation deals during the festival- Eat, Drink, Sleep!
•Check out special offers at restaurants, cafes, deli’s, butchers and farm shops
•Visit the Made in Cumbria farmers market and buy straight from local producers. Stock up on your favourite foods, browse the many stalls, and try before you buy!
The full programme will be published in September 2009.
