Lake District Pubs

lake district pubs
The lake district is blessed with a huge variety of public houses and inns. Many of these watering holes are centuries old and have helped wet the whistle of generations of travellers.

The King George IV inn near Eskdale possibly lays claim to the most ancient ancestry with the oldest parts of the building dating back to Roman times.

The highest pub in the lake district at 1489 feet, is the Inn at the top of Kirkstone Pass. Originally built in the year 1496, the inn is the third highest in England.

These are proper pubs, with oak beams, log fires, smelly dogs, and local characters. Observe the Golden Rule of the fells - the first pub that you come to, is the one to stop at for a pint.
