Description
The best climbing wall in the South Lake District, probably the best in Cumbria. This means that it can get very busy in the after work hours during winter, and on some routes you will be climbing very close to other climbers. The fact that it is so busy is testament to the wide variety of routes and walls available. In addition to the main 18m wall, two seperate bouldering areas, and a beginners area, there are plenty of other routes at around 10m in height with grades from 4 upwards. Routes are changed regularly, and are consistantly of good standard.

The staff are friendly, knowlegable, and regularly mix with climbers to keep an eye out for potential problems, although this is never intrusive. Refreshments are available (including Wilf's flapjacks), as are changing facilities, toilets, and a changing room - but everyone just gears up where they climb.

Occasionaly you'll have to wait for a route for a couple of minutes when it's busy, but the main wall usually has a space free, and for us non gravity defying mortals it kicks off with a mainly vertical 5 +

Courses are available, both indoor, and outdoor, you can buy gear, or find a climbing partner via the notice board.

Broad mix of users from children to pensioners, plenty of women climbers too.

The atmosphere is friendly rather than hardcore, so if you're in the area (or live in the lakes and would like to try climbing), pay a visit to The Lakeland Climbing Centre, or as it's more popularly called - Kendal Climbing Wall.
