Description Lakeside Country Guest House (4 Star Silver Award.) Personally run by owners Sharon and Arnie Helling. This house is an elegant Edwardian property quietly situated 100 metres from Bassenthwaite Lake and with great views of Skiddaw mountain range and a glimpse of Bassenthwaite Lake. The house was built in 1904 for the boss of the "long gone" railway station. We have been privileged to own Lakeside for 8 years and have succeeded in creating a peaceful haven away from life's daily stresses yet we are only 10 minutes drive from Keswick and Cockermouth towns. The highly recommended Pheasant Inn is walking distance. Bedrooms vary in style and size. The front facing superior rooms enjoying the lake and mountain views. All rooms have comfortable beds, quality bed linen and large fluffy towels, flat screen TV/DVD, fair trade beverage trays and Gilchrist and Soames toiletries. On arrival we like to welcome you with a complimentary hospitality tray with home made biscuits or cake made by Arnie who is a 5 star Chef and who will also be taking care of your breakfasts. A Cumberland Breakfast will set you up for the day. We use local ingredients including the freshest free range farm eggs and bacon and sausages from locally reared animals. The house has kept many original features including stained glass windows, oak flooring and wood panelled walls. Beautiful Tiffany lamps create a lovely night time glow. Outside we have a furnished terrace where you can sit quietly with your book or look out for the Ospreys between April and September. In cooler weather you can enjoy the views from the residents lounge where you would be most welcome to bring your own wine. We offer free WI FI and parking. We are happy to help you plan your trip. We have an abundance of local walks for fell walkers. You can hire sail boats or canoes from Derwentwater Marina or take a gyro plane over Bassenthwaite Lake.
