4 Star Licensed Guest House by Bassenthwaite Lake
Link House is a late Victorian Country Guest House, situated close to Bassenthwaite Lake with stunning views of both forests and fells. Traditionally built in the late Victorian age, this country house enjoys stunning views of the forest and surrounding fells including the 3046 feet Skiddaw. The sunny aspect gives a warm and comfortable atmosphere in which to relax and feel at home.

We are situated just off the A66 at the northern tip of Bassenthwaite Lake; approx 8 miles from the popular tourist town of Keswick and 5 miles from the old market town of Cockermouth, birthplace of William Wordsworth and the oldest town in Cumbria.
Link House is in the quieter part of the Lake District National Park, yet with access to many interesting places to visit such as the Whinlatter Visitor Centre and Dodd Wood where the Ospreys who nest nearby each year, can be viewed. It makes an ideal base for walkers, cyclists, sailors (500 metres to Bassenthwaite Sailing Club), wedding guests ( just 1.5/2 miles from Armathwaite Hall and the Castle Inn), or anyone attending courses at Higham Hall.
Link House can sleep up to 13 adults in a combination of Double, Twin and Single rooms; House parties for walking, weddings etc. can be catered for and preferential rates are available for booking the entire house.
A peaceful location for the serious walker or cyclist or for touring by car: everyone claims that, but here it’s true!

Dining

At Link House we know how important food is to making a good holiday great or just getting your working day off on the right note so we take great care with our selections.
We try to source our produce as locally as possible and use the best quality we can find. Our eggs are all free range and come from Scales Farm just down the road. Drive down the A66 and you can see the hens in the fields.
You can buy the eggs and other produce direct from Shelia and Thomas at their farm shop.
All our bacon, sausage and black pudding comes from Fell Top Farm at Hesket Newmarket. Alan and Ian make sure only the best quality is sold and their sausages are the best we have ever tasted.
The pies and chops come from Harrison's in Cockermouth. Tony is very particular about the meat he provides and is happy to talk about where his meat comes from.
Of course some items we have to buy come from further afield but we do try to avoid air freighted fruit and veg etc. out of season.
We also have a policy of using Fair Trade products where we can. All our beverages and biscuits in the room are accredited.
If you are going walking or cycling for the day and don't want the bother of stopping to buy sandwiches then we can provide you with a packed lunch. We can also fill flasks with tea or coffee for you.
You can help yourself from the buffet where you will find fruit juice, cereals, home made granola (recipe available if you really like it), creamy greek yoghurt, fresh fruit, grapefruit and prunes.
The full Cumbrian breakfast or a vegetarian alternative is always available and we have a number of specials to tempt you including Kedgeree, Mumbles Eggs or a Spicy Bean Cake with a Potato Patti. You could even treat youself to smoked salmon with scrambled eggs.
