Newlands Valley
The Newlands Valley is within the Lake District National Park and has a deserved reputation for its scenery and tranquility. From a tourist point of view it is close to Keswick and the A66 making it easy to visit. The valley has a back road which which starts at the village of Braithwaite and continues over Newlands Hause to Buttermere. A further road begins at the hamlet of Portinscale and joins the route from Braithwaite near the village of Stair. The valley has some excellent tourist accommodation including The Swinside Lodge Hotel and there is a handily placed pub The Swinside Inn. The hamlet of Little Town, which has been put on the map due its Beatrix Potter connections has the lovely Littletown Farm B&B and this is the heart of Miss Tiggywinkle territory.Little Town has a few cottages, and you can see the small whitewashed Newlands Church built in the 16th century and rebuilt after falling into disrepair. in conclusion having driven through the valley several times it is a lovely drive and for walkers who have the time it would be ideal.
