Not so much a castle more a tower really,Dalton Castle was built by the powerful Furness Abbey monks in the 14th century as a symbol of their authority over the Furness Peninsula.These days Dalton Castle is a National Trust property only open on Saturdays March 22 - Sept 27 and houses a local history exhibition including info on the painter George Romney who hailed from Dalton originally. Manjushri Centre at Conishead Priory
Now the home of the Manjushri centre for Buddhist studies, Conishead priory stands on the site of a twelth century Augustinian Priory, which was seized by the crown and dismantled in 1537. It was rebuilt as a large house, then demolished again, to be rebuilt anew in 1821.
