Olympic Torch in The Lake District

Day 34 of the Olympic torch relay begins in Dumfries and ends at Bowness on Windermere. The relay takes in Carlisle before visiting the west coast towns of Maryport, Workington and Whitehaven. The journey through the lakes follows the A591 via Keswick, Grasmere and Ambleside with the final leg from Waterhead to Bowness being aboard a Windermere steam boat.

Bowness will be busy tonight as the torch is welcomed and an evening of events unfolds:

The evening will be in two parts. From 6pm there will be a celebration event to mark the arrival of the torch with live music. After an interval the Lakes Alive part of the evening, On The Night Shift, will kick off, at around 10pm. It will finish by 11pm at the latest.
