Description
"Welcome to River Deep Mountain High. Established in 2003, providing an excellent outdoor activity experience in the Lake District"
Canoeing and Kayaking
Canoeing
Experience true tranquillity whilst enjoying beautiful views of the surrounding mountains, on the lake, in our large stable Canadian canoes. Canoeing is a dry option (unless it rains!). We generally go out on Coniston Water in our extra wide and very stable boats. We explore the lake taking a journey, visiting a beach/island on the way for a break and a hot drink and sometimes play a game or two. We can raft the boats together and, if the weather is favourable, hoist a sail – a very relaxing way to travel, but still one that everyone can be involved in.
For a dry and genteel adventure, enjoy our Canoe-Sailing Swallows and Amazons journey, which is brilliant fun for families to explore the length of Coniston Water, discovering Piel Island which is Wildcat Island in the Swallows and Amazons books.
For groups looking for lots of fun, rafted Canoes are a great Team Building experience where you can all work together to discover the lake, with the options of playing lots of games and jumping off the jetty at the end.
We also run Canoeing Skills Courses such as BCU 1 star test, BCU 2 star test and Paddlesport Development Courses.

website
– you can even book and pay online!
River Deep Mountain High are looking forward to welcoming you soon.

“Just a quick thanks. My 6 year old son and I did a canoeing taster yesterday afternoon with Brian and Amy. It was very enjoyable, Leo was quite scared beforehand and Amy did a great job of reassuring him. All the best, Andrew Beevers” - February 2011

"I enjoyed the canoeing and jumping in the river it was so fun" Brandon (age 8) August 2010
“We really enjoyed our day - absolutely knackered by the end of it! Johan was great - very enthusiastic right to the end, encouraged everyone individually. We would certainly recommend you and are planning to come and try canoeing with you (maybe in the spring). Thanks very much.” - Martin Putsey October 2010
Kayaking
Our kayaks (small single person boats with a double ended paddle) allow you to have some fun while learning new skills and enjoying a journey on a lake. Our lake sessions are always full of interest, include a proper journey logable towards BCU qualifications and, where it’s desired, aim to teach the skills required for progressing onto river trips.
If you prefer to get wet, wild and active exploring the lakes and rivers in our Kayaks you will love this activity. Our kayaking is perfect for adventurous couples and families with teenagers.
We also run Kayaking Skills Courses such as BCU 1 star test, BCU 2 star test and Paddle Development Courses.
We send directions to meeting points and kit lists in advance and we provide high quality equipment, yummy hot chocolate and friendly instructors.

Testimonials
“Just dropping you a line to let you know how much we enjoyed our kayaking session yesterday. Johan was a great instructor who built our confidence and abilities steadily throughout the day, and to be honest I really didn't want to get out of the water when it was all over. The scenery and weather all contributed to a fantastic, fun filled day. I will be recommending River Deep Mountain High to all my friends and hopefully will be returning next year for the next level.” - Alan Lomax October 2010
“Please pass on huge thanks to Johan and Robin for being brilliant instructors on the kayaking trip last Thursday! Its no mean feat encouraging 3 50 somethings and 2 teenagers to hurl themselves down rapids, fall in, get stuck, get cold and still be keen to do another day's kayaking! It was a great introduction, managed with skill! Its says something about the air of confidence they inspired that I found my self going downstream (bumpily) without a paddle and finding it funny rather than scary!” - Jenny Danczak and Leo, November 2010

Please give a score our of 5 and comments on the following areas:
Website (Information and Navigation) - 4 Looks very professional. As we have used RDMH previously (a couple of years ago), we just called and booked this year, without really needing to browse the web site.
Booking Process and Information - 5
Really good comms, and detailed information, ensuring we knew exactly where to go, what to bring, what to expect etc...
Meet and Greet - 5
Again, spot-on. Johan was there on time to guide us through the process of kitting-up, and was very professional.
Activity Experience (Pitch, Kit, Content) - 5 Two of our group had been Kayaking before (with RDMH), the other three had never tried it. Under your expert guidance, we were able to undertake a journey around Coniston, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all, and by the end of the session, everyone felt they had either gained a new skill, or honed an existing one.
Overall Value for Money -5
