The Rothay Garth Bed and Breakfast has a superb position combining glorious mountain views with easy access to Windermere Lake and Ambleside. Ambleside village itself is one of the best known and visited in The Lake District due to its ideal location, a perfect base at the Heart of the glorious Lakes.
The Rothay Garth Bed and Breakfast at Ambleside is a beautiful traditional Victorian Lakeland slate building set in its own landscaped grounds. Whilst retaining its character and many original features, the Rothay Garth offers en suite facilities, a comfortable spacious resident’s lounge and drinks service, conservatory, elegant breakfast room and a large private car park. Better still, we are located only a few minutes walk from Lake Windermere at Waterhead and only a short stroll to the restaurants, bars, shops and facilities of Ambleside making us convenient as well as elegant.

Residents Lounge

Here at The Rothay Garth Bed and Breakfast we have a large, comfortable lounge for you to relax in with stunning views of the Ambleside fells, a choice of daily papers, a selection of local interest books and magazines or, if you prefer, you can simply doze off in front of our lovely open fire!
   
Drinks Service
For those who may require something of substance after a hard days walking on the Lake District fells, or a well deserved pre-dinner drink to start your evening we offer a resident's drinks service between 2pm - 8.30pm. 
 
Conservatory
Enjoy impressive views of some of Ambleside 's classic mountains from the comfort of your chair! From the conservatory you can watch the world go by, read a book or try and count how many fell walkers you can see marching up Loughrigg Fell!!
Large Private Car Park

One of the great things about staying at The Rothay Garth Bed and Breakfast is that you can always find a car parking space. We have room for 18 vehicles.

Garden
The Rothay Garth Bed and Breakfast has a beautiful landscaped garden with seating areas from which you can enjoy the Ambleside mountain scenery, or a leisurely drink.
Drying and Boot Room

After a great day out on the Ambleside fells you don't need to worry if you got a bit wet or muddy - we've got a new drying and boot room where we can store all your walking items until you're ready to head out on the fells again!!

Snacks and Drinks
Served from 1:30pm until 5:30pm we offer a menu serving up sandwiches with a lovely salad garnish and crisps. For those walkers planning a long day on the Lake District fells we will happily fill your flasks with hot or cold drinks, and we offer a fell walkers packed lunch to keep you going until tea time!

Start your day with a hearty Lakeland Breakfast.

Help yourself to a choice of cereals, fruit and juice from the selection on our breakfast table. A member of staff will come to your individual table to take your order as to which hot beverage you would like and your choice of hot breakfast from the selection below:
Tea, Coffee and Toast - Earl Grey, Herbal, De-caffeinated Tea and Hot chocolate are available
Lakeland farmhouse platter consisting of fried Windermere free range eggs, bacon, Cumberland sausage, tomato, mushrooms, hash brown, black pudding and beans
Vegetarian platter consisting of fried Windermere free range eggs, tomato, mushrooms, hash brown and beans
Or Choose from;

    * Scrambled eggs on toast
    * Scrambled eggs mixed with smoked salmon on toast
    * Poached eggs on toast
    * Two boiled eggs
    * Baked beans on toast

Service starts from 8.15 am until 9.30 am

Accommodation

We have luxury double rooms - 3 with four-poster beds. These rooms are spacious, with a jacuzzi bath as well as a shower in the en-suite, a DVD player and complimentary waters.. We also have 3 superior rooms, one with a four- poster bed and two with king size beds and all with baths as well as showers in the en-suite bathrooms. Again these rooms are spacious. We then have 4 standard double rooms which have double bed and showers in the en-suite. We also have a small standard double room, with a double bed and again a shower in the en-suite. Finally we have 3 rooms able to accommodate more than 2 people – 1 with both a double and single bed, 1with a king size sleigh bed and a single bed.

Discover the lakes met the Dixon family who own Rothay Garth and we found them to be lovely friendly hosts.
The hotel is clean and inviting and has parking which is a real plus as you will be only a minutes walk from the centre of Ambleside village with its shops and galleries to browse.
