Description
Shank Wood Log Cabin is situated amongst 140 acres of picturesque privately owned ancient woodland sited in the middle of a 2 mile beat of the River Lyne, close to the Lake District. We offer the perfect log cabin holidays for either romantic getaways, family adventures or short breaks away with friends.
The log cabin itself sleeps up to 4 people with split-level, open accommodation, from only £90 per night and we offer romantic breaks at only 2 nights minimum stay. Located north of Carlisle, we offer unique Lake District holidays with a difference. The logs used to build the log cabin are hand scribed and are all sourced from local timber and we try to make your cabin holidays as eco-friendly as possible.
Fishing is included on the River Lyne which is situated on the doorstep of the cabin, and why not try your hand at catching a fish for your supper.
Shank Wood Log Cabin offers visitors the chance to experience nature and the countryside at its finest, along with enjoying the woodland in an eco-friendly environment. The outstanding backdrop of the spectacular woodland and the miles of walks in the area, along with cycle trails and horse riding close by will ensure an unforgettable experience for romantic breaks.
The experience has been tailored for those who want to spend time off the beaten track, out of the ordinary, which is truly unspoilt and tranquil. The log cabin is completely secluded ensuring privacy for guests at all times, however the cabin is close to the Lake District where a wealth of activities such as climbing, abseiling and walking can be found.
We offer relaxing midweek and weekend UK short breaks as well as longer holidays at the cabin, so whatever you are looking for, we are sure that we have the perfect log cabin holidays in a totally secluded environment.
This is the perfect setting for anyone wishing to unwind and enjoy what the untouched river and woods have to offer from your own private log cabin and unique river view.
Log Cabin Accomodation Information
Shank Wood Log Cabin, river and woods are uniquely, sited within the Lyne valley, a major tributary of the Border Esk, close to the Lake District. Accommodating up to four people, the cabin has been equipped to a high standard making your visit as comfortable as possible whilst maintaining the unspoilt surroundings and enhancing your log cabin holiday.
New! Wood Fired Hot Tub
The Log Cabin is situated at the mouth of a sandstone fault that contains a mile stretch of the River Lyne, close to Lake District. The cliffs provide a spectacular backdrop to anyone watching the King Fishers or Dippers go about their day or casting a fly to the resident wild Brown Trout population or the visiting shy Sea Trout. Both in and out of the gorge the river is slower providing numerous pools where Salmon lie.
For the walkers among you there are 4 miles of spectacular paths and tracks amongst carpets of Blue Bells and Wild Garlic for you to explore the area whilst spotting some of the local flora and fauna that make the area a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Great places to rest and picnic on your short break include "Fairy Table", Lady Pool and "Grandpa's Seat."
Eco-Friendly Log Cabin Holidays
As the cabin is based in a special area it has been designed to work in conjunction with nature as much as possible. Therefore lighting is provided by solar power, facilities by a peat toilet, and heating by a clean burn wood burner making the cabin a joy in both the winter and the summer. An outdoor sink with running water provides cooking, drinking and washing water.
As many Lake District holidays the Cabin is self catering and the large weber BBQ can cook most foods and boil the kettle. There are no fridge facilities but the river is normally pretty cool!
Fishing
Fishing is included in the price of your stay. If you would like to rent a rod, please ask at the time of booking. Each rod is £20.00 for the duration of your stay, 4 rods can be on the river at any one time. There are 11 pools on the 2 mile beat, each having its own place where fish love to lie.
Pools from East to West are as follows:
Otterstone
A great sunny spot for Otters to chew their catch which are still seen on the river regularly. Please be careful when wading here as the pool shelves quickly.
Woodruff pool
A challenge to fish but with a little bit of cunning holds some great summer sea trout
The Shelf
Great Salmon lie but be careful when wading!
Jeans Pool
One of the most rewarding pools to fish, situated outside the cabin. Why not watch the sea trout move into the shallows at dusk sitting in the "Hollow Log"
Fairy Table
Another challenge to fish but can be rewarding off the top of rock with stealth.
The Deep
Deep.
Spencer's pool
Named after a gentleman who caught his first double figure Salmon here.
Lady Pool
Great place to picnic on the sand and a swim.
Foul Bottom
Difficult to fish but can hold some Chubb.
Snowdrop Pool
Some big fish have been sited here. Recently cleared to allow good fishing access.
South Ford
One big pool with some great places to fish, can be very productive.
