The aim of the Boundary is to be the perfect place to relax and enjoy the many pleasures of the English Lakes.
The Boundary is owned and run by Steve Thomas and Helen Sowerby.
We are always looking to enhance your stay in the Lake District, and to use and promote quality, local products and services wherever we can.

The Boundary is a member of the Spa at the Macdonald Old England Hotel in Bowness, a short walk away, and all bookings include complementary use of the Spa for our guests.
When we designed our boutique Windermere accommodation, we were determined that without being 'greener than thou' about it, we would try to be as eco-friendly as possible, and we have fitted solar panels to assist hot water heating, natural sheep's wool insulation and re-claimed oak floorboards.
We get our power from Ecotricity, which means almost half the electricity we use is from renewable sources, and 40 pence in every pound we pay them is also reinvested in renewable energy sources.
At our luxury accommodation in Windermere, toiletries include organic soap and bath salts from Mother Earth of Grasmere.

Our bacon and gluten-free sausage come from Woodall's of Waberthwaite, whose pork is antibiotic-free; our free-range eggs are from Bannerigg Farm, Windermere. Fair Trade tea, coffee and hot chocolate are served throughout our contemporary accommodation in Windermere.

There are a select but growing number of people providing contemporary accommodation in the Lake District, and a still more select bunch offering contemporary accommodation in Windermere, and we hope you will notice the difference.
We provide comprehensive room information, including recommendations for local eateries near to our contemporary accommodation in Windermere.
We also offer maps/books to help you plan your activities. If we can be of any further help at any time please ask.
We hope you will love your bedroom, whichever you choose; but sometimes it's good to get out and about and so The Boundary has two attractive public rooms on the ground floor - a large breakfast room with lounging area and wood-burning stove, and a cosy snug, which has been fitted with a stylish flueless gas fire for the chillier months.
Downstairs at the Boundary is the place to have a drink, or a read, or plan your next day, or marvel at our strange cricket obsession, manifested by the old books you'll find lying around.
We offer free wireless internet connection throughout the building.

Rooms
Fry
boundary_fry.jpg
Second floor, at the back of the house

Definitely worth climbing the stairs for, with something of the raffish feel appropriate to a room named for C.B. Fry,
the legendary Edwardian cricketer and all-round renaissance man.
A lofty, spacious room with windows facing south and east, and luxurious furnishings including a hand-carved
French-style mahogany bed and venetian glass dressing table.

Bathroom has double basins, large-head shower, separate bath and underfloor heating.

Ranji

Second floor front, with free-standing bath in room.

Named for C B Fry's great friend, the romantic Indian prince Sir K.S. Ranjitsinhji, known universally as "Ranji".
An elegant batsman for both Sussex and England, Ranji more or less invented the leg glance and India's domestic one-day cricket tournament is named after him.

A lovely, romantic, room at the front of the house, which looks north-west.
Our most requested room so far, with flamingo-strewn wallpaper, panelling behind the bed, slightly rococo furniture and double-ended bath in the room.
There is a separate shower room for traditionalists, complete with walk-in shower and views toward Claife Heights.

Hobbs

First floor front

The original master bedroom of the house,
named for the master batsman Jack Hobbs, who made a still-unequalled 197 first-class centuries in his 40-year career.

Spacious room, complete with original big bay window and cornices.

Views towards Claife Heights and just a glimpse of Windermere in winter.
The furniture is hand-painted, including the king-sized four-poster bed.

MacLaren

First floor room at back of house

Spacious room with wooden shutters to bedroom and bathroom windows - perfect for late risers.
Named for A. C. MacLaren, England captain and still the holder of the record individual total for Lancashire (a monumental 424 against Somerset in 1895).

MacLaren features an elegant colour scheme, in shades of grey and blue,
with venetian glass dressing table and full-length mirror and five foot divan.

The bathroom has underfloor heating, double washbasins and a digital remote control for the shower , so you can get the temperature just right before you even get out of bed.

The lordly bathroom boasts a two-person walk-in grohe rainshower,
lovely Victoria & Albert free-standing bath and underfloor heating.

Barnes
ground floor room
Named for S.F. Barnes, the great Staffordshire bowler; the only minor counties cricketer ever to play for England, who also made Richie Benaud's all-time greatest XI.
A ground floor room with easy access to the dining room and snug. A light, airy room with funky bathroom including large Kudos/aqualisa digital walk-in shower, separate bath, double basins and underfloor heating.
