Lakeland character, charming hosts, great Lakeland food, A Discover The Lakes favourite inn.
The Crown Inn at High Newton, or alternatively Newton in Cartmel, is to be found just off the A590 a couple of miles before Newby Bridge but within easy striking distance of Lake Windermere or the Furness peninsula with the historic market town of Ulverston and attractions such as the South Lakes Wild Animal Park.
Also close by are the Victorian seaside resort of Grange Over Sands with its Victorian arcade of shops and cafes, and Cartmel village, famous for its racecourse.
High Newton has recently been bypassed, so the Crown now enjoys a much quieter position away from the traffic.
With origins going back to the 17th century, the pub retains a real Lakeland country pub feel, with flagstone floors, roaring log fires and oak beams.

The bar area has plenty of seating and a log fire for chilly evenings, being a freehold inn there is a great selection of local real ales from Hawkshead and Coniston breweries including the award winning Bluebird bitter. From lagers and spirits to a superb collection of wines and fresh juices, there is something for everyone.
To the front of the pub is a lovely seated area which catches the sun all day and there is a relaxing beer garden at the back of the pub which is ideal for whiling away the hours.

The Crown Inn has an excellent restaurant serving fine dining as well as traditional British pub meals.
The Crown has an interesting history as a former coaching house where teams of horses could be rested and changed before the long haul up Cartmel Fell.
Eerie goings on….
There are numerous of tales of the resident ghost, Henry, who apparently only appears before the fairer sex. Henry is also said to prefer a particular chair- but sadly, as yet the owners don't know which one that is (Be careful not to sit on his knee)! The locals gathering round the bar in the evenings can tell you spooky stories of where they have heard and seen Henry roaming the Inn.

Transformed a couple of years ago but without losing its Lakeland olde world charm.
The road past the Crown meanders over Cartmel Fell with spectacular views and is an ideal way to walk off a few calories from an excellent lunch.
The menu looks very enticing indeed and we have no hesitation in suggesting you go there and enjoy a meal and a real ale from the Lakes.
