The Greyhound Hotel in Shap is a famous Westmorland hostelry dating back to 1680.
Based on the A6, just 5 minutes from junction 39 of the M6, with panoramic views of the Lake District fells, it is the perfect stopping off point for walkers (especially those on Wainwright's famous Coast to Coast walk), travelers and is a great place for meetings with private facilities.
Coach parties are welcome throughout the year.
We are pet friendly and welcome caravaners for short stays in our car park.
The hotel has 11 en-suite rooms (6 standard, 5 deluxe), two restaurants, free WiFi, and a large bar with a wide selection of wines and real ales to enjoy in comfortable surroundings.
There are also lots of great walks nearby for you to appreciate our lovely countryside!

Wine & Dine

The Greyhound has an excellent reputation for food and drink throughout Cumbria.  All of our dishes are freshly prepared to your order, with all of our meat and game coming from local suppliers. This enables us to have one of the lowest 'food miles' menus without compromising on quality and supporting our local producers.  There is also a chef's specials board for evening meals which changes on a daily basis, all reasonably priced. The pub also has a selection of up to 8 traditional hand-pulled ales, a choice of lagers and spirits and a wide range of carefully chosen wines to compliment your meal or just to enjoy in the bar.
Our menu changes daily as we believe in using the best seasonal produce available. We cater for all dietary requirements so please do not hesitate to contact us and we can provide details of our current menus and specials.
Our famous dishes, for example our suet-crusted steak and ale pie and our unbeatable beer-battered fish & chips, are normally available, and we always offer a Fell Top Meats steak, a vegetarian option and local game when in season including partridge, venison and pheasant.
As we freshly prepare our meals, our chefs can on request change dishes to your preference.
