Your friendly webmaster has stayed at the Pennington a couple of times & most enjoyable it has been! Room 18 is favourite, lovely bathroom and the food has been excellent as has the service.I also think that the room rates are pretty reasonable starting around the £100 mark and up to £130 which is pretty good for the quality.

The Pennington is in Ravenglass, home of the “Laal ratty” narrow guage steam railway and it is a coastal village dating back to Roman times (roman bath house nearby) but is technically still in the Lake District and is in fact the only coastal village in Cumbria to be so.

It is on the rather more tranquil west coast and is therefore a bit further to go from the M6 but the location is worth it.
After dinner in the lovely Estuary dining room you can stroll down to the shore and take in the sunset usually with few other people around.

Muncaster Castle with its Tom Fool and owl sanctuary is close to the hotel & is owned by the Pennington family, as is the Pennington hotel itself, hence the name
