Whitehaven

Every town has its claim to fame and Whitehaven certainly has one of the most curious. On the 23rd April 1778 during the American War of Independence, John Paul Jones arrived in Britain off the coast of Whitehaven (an important port) with the goal of setting the whole merchant fleet aflame. What happened next is open to interpretation and historical revisionism but its true that we now welcome americans to the town instead of sending them away with a flea in their ear.

Whitehaven was recently voted one of the best places in England to live on a quality of life against cost criteria. Property is affordable and education standards are high.
It is a largely Georgian town.
