Description
For a truly unique and authentic camping experience, in secluded ancient woodland just metres from the shore of Coniston Water with everything this beautiful area of the Lakes has to offer.
Please Note: Bookings taken only for the whole site but no minimum limit on the number of people. For example 20 people could have the campsite to themselves for a week for £20 per head - for the week !
The campsite has been formed in a natural clearing on the fringe of the nationally important Dodgson Wood SSSI, therefore it is being managed with conservation and minimal impact in mind. To reinforce this no wood can be collected from the site, but if you want a campfire, wood is supplied by us, free of charge all you have to do is saw it up. Composting toilets are on site, and a strict recycling policy is used, there are no showers, laundrette or games room, but you are assured your only neighbours will be the woodland wildlife.

The site will normally to be let as a whole taking up to forty people and is ideal for scouts or outdoor education groups, but can be split into two for smaller groups (the top level suiting smaller tents). This means that the area could be divided and used by two different groups/families with aprox twenty on each part. A track runs through the site which is used by us to access the land above and occasionally bring sheep and cattle to and from the fells otherwise the site is your own. We hope it will appeal to many different groups or extended families wanting a unique experience, to get back to traditional camping and be at one with nature. Nearby The campsite is located in such a position that canoeing, mountain biking, walking or just appreciating the countryside is covered. Bethacar Moor is above the site with extensive views of Lake Coniston and walks on into Grizedale Forest. There are countless stunning walks to be accessed, and the steamboat Gondola which runs from April to November can be boarded from the pier opposite the site by prior arrangement. There is plenty of opportunity to hire outdoor equipment in the village of Coniston (less than 10 mins drive) which also has a Butchers, Green Grocers, Newsagent and Garage. For a touch of culture Brantwood the former home of John Ruskin and its attractive gardens and café is within walking distance, Tarn Hows and Hill Top the home of Beatrix Potter are no more than a short drive away. What to Bring This campsite is very basic therefore you must bring everything associated with camping, torches are a must as is cooking equipment. Bottled water is required for drinking, although there is running water on site, which is from the nearby stream, boiling is essential.
