For those of us lucky enough to have been brought up in the lake district the ravenglass and eskdale railway is a treasured childhood memory and also a new one as parents ourselves. The Laal Ratty as it is affectionately known winds its way 7 miles up the valley to Boot. There are stops along the way so it can be a full day out if you wish.
There are cafes at Ravenglass station and at Dalegarth.
Themed weekends happen occasionally and you can combine a trip on the railway with a visit to Pennington village and the roman bathhouse.
